šŸŒˆ Celebrating YOUTH! & 44 New Grantees!!

June is a busy month at Outride, with the themes of community, connection, and fun on two wheels rising to the surface: It is PRIDE month, Outrideā€™s Summer Solstice ride is June 18th through 21st, the Outride Fund committed over $450,000 to 44 youth cycling programs, and today, weā€™re headed to the largest gravel race in the nation, Unbound, in Emporia, KS. If that doesnā€™t sound like a glorious kick-off to summer, we donā€™t know what would!

Read more below! We look forward to sharing more stories + photos in the coming months!

Onward Together,

The Outride Team

JOIN THE SOLSTICE RIDE

Outride ambassadors and friends will host several group rides for The Solstice Ride between June 18th and June 21st. Whether youā€™re up for an epic sunrise to sunset day on the bike, or simply game to connect, spin, and grab a coffee with your local bike friends, you have a place in our Solstice Ride community.

Come join us ā€“ and communities across the US ā€“ to CELEBRATE the longest weekend of the year the best way possible: Creating community by pedaling two wheels! Now in its third year, the mission of The Solstice Ride is to GENERATE SUPPORT for grassroots youth organizations committed to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the cycling community.

Last year we raised over $80,000 for the Outride Fund. These grants go directly to organizations enabling kids to experience the joy and freedom of riding a bike. This year our goal is to raise $100,000.

Outride will be hosting EIGHT rides in communities across the country ā€“ but there are lots of ways for you to participate:

  1. Organize a ride in your community ā€“ or come join ME!

  2. Spread the word about @Outrideā€˜s mission and the purpose of #theSolsticeRide to support youth access to bikes.

  3. Donate on Classy. Help diversify the next generation of cyclists.

Please visit The Solstice Ride Classy page for ride details, fundraising opportunities, and routes across the nation.

Outride at UNBOUND

Ambassador Ali Tetrick will ride a ā€œRace Against the Sunā€ circuit with Outrideā€™s own, Libby Caldwell, to raise money for Outride and other youth cycling organizations. If youā€™d like to support Outride directly, bandanas are available for purchase.

Whatā€™s so special about Unbound?
Gravel racing has become popular in large part due to its accessibility ā€” gravel provides a diversity of participation where every day riders can saddle up next to world class racers like three-time world champion, Peter Sagan. There is a connection to community through backroads, rural towns, dirt-clad smiles, and the love of all things two wheels.

We are SO excited for the opportunity to connect with the gravel riding community and support Outrideā€™s ambassadors in the 100 and 200 mile races. Weā€™ll capture images from the trail, hear more about what our ambassadors have been up to this race season, and discuss how we can make cycling more inclusive, beyond the gravel. Check us out on Instagram to stay caught up with our ambassadors, the race in real time, and all things PRIDE to come this month.

On a far more somber note, the cycling community suffered a significant loss in May with the passing of Moriah Wilson. ā€œMoā€ won 10 gravel races in 2022 and was expected to win Unbound this month. As a Specialized teammate, as a competitor with grit, and as a woman in sport, we will honor Moā€™s memory by joining fellow Outride ambassadors Ian Boswell, KC Cross, Christopher Stricklen, Meg Fisher, Joshua Strong, Matt Accarino, and Sarah Sturm in a memorial ride the day before the Unbound race.
