…and the next Riding For Focus application cycle!

The next Riding For Focus (R4F) application cycle will open by the end of January.
R4F, our middle school-based cycling education program, provides schools with everything they need to get their students riding bikes - helmets, curriculum, teacher training, and a fleet of bikes.

After the teacher training, teachers empower their students with the skills and confidence to keep pedaling safely into adulthood. Since our early days, we’ve brought R4F to over 225 middle schools around the country. Schools that receive our R4F grant serve historically marginalized, under-resourced communities, and schools can also purchase the program. The data we’ve collected from our programs shows their worth.

Keep learning from the 2022 Outride Summit

The 2022 Outride Summit brought together an array of leaders and incredible talent from across industries both digitally and live at Specialized Bicycle HQ in Morgan Hill, CA from multi-world champion and Olympic cyclists, to renowned researchers from the likes of Stanford University. The Outride Summit brought forward what Outride has believed all along: that cycling lights up the brain, and the benefits are far-reaching: assisting in empowering youth and communities to push through the cultural mental health crisis we are currently facing.

Transforming Youth Cycling: Health, Community, and Access” provided a space to share stories, data, research, and new program initiatives to help support youth and community wellbeing through cycling. Over 500 educators, community organizers, university researchers, healthcare professionals, members of local and regional governments, and members of the bike industry attended.

Throughout the Summit presenters and attendees mentioned a number of articles, links, and resources. They are compiled here, sorted by presentation and session. If there are additional resources we may have missed, please contact us at research@outridebike.org so we can update the list.

Honoring Veterans

Last week we recognized Veteran’s Day and we would like to honor the individuals who have served our country and protected our nation, while also bringing awareness to the obstacles they face as a result of their service.

The mental health struggles our veterans face are significant: PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), anxiety, depression, and more. We have heard from veterans all around the country and as close as our own colleagues at Outride. Their stories of how cycling has been a tool to overcome these incredible challenges and honor their fellow veterans truly show the strength of these courageous people and the power of the bike.
